Important!

IMPORTANT! This programme is only designed forusers of KIMBERLY-CLARK PROFESSIONAL® KIMTECH® Garments in Pharmaceutical or Bioscience Manufacturing companies, Research Facilities or Universities. Disposable garments that are available through retail stores and are used in household cannot be collected in this recycling programme.

How it works

Collection is easy and simply requires that used gloves are collected separately from other materials before they are then sent to TerraCycle® for recycling. Depending on the size of the collection site we have developed different collection models that allow locations with high usage as well as locations with low usage of gloves to take part in the programme. Any UK businesses interested in participating in the programme, should click the Register Interest button below and fill in the form. A KCP representative will contact you in due course.

What you can recycle in this programme

Kimberly-Clark Professional® has partnered with us to create first recycling programme for disposable garments.

Programme accepted waste: Only KIMTECH® Branded garments are accepted. Disposable garments of any other brand are not accepted by Terracycle®. Furthermore, we cannot accept KIMTECH® garments that are contaminated, according to the European-wide list of wastes Regulation (AVV) as they are considered dangerous and must be disposed of properly.

Best practices for recycling

Please note we cannot accept KIMTECH® nitrile gloves that are contaminated, according to the European-wide list of wastes Regulation (AVV) as they are considered dangerous and must be disposed of properly. These include:

  • Disposable gloves, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 15 02 02 and are contaminated by dangerous substances (E.g. chemicals).
  • Disposable gloves, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 18 01 04 and are tainted with blood, secretions or excreta.
  • Disposable gloves, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 18 01 03 and are fraught with reportable pathogens, if a spread of the disease is to be feared.

What happens to the waste

The garments are initially stored by our logistics partner. When we’ve collected a sufficient amount of disposable garments from all the different participating companies in the KIMTECH® Disposable Garments Recycling Programme, we start with the recycling process. We try to recycle the disposable garments as locally as possible and with the available and most up-to-date technologies and infrastructures. The garments made from PP are processed into plastic granules, which serves as a secondary raw material for new plastic products. Disposable garments can be further processed in order to become the raw materials used to make the likes of park benches, waste bins, or watering cans. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.
